Object type or designation (mandatory)

Definition

The object type is the most specific way of describing what an object or work is, specifying as precisely as possible the type of object to which it belongs.

Recording notes

The object type indicates what kind of object something is. The term should be taken from a controlled vocabulary. The most specific term in the controlled vocabulary hierarchy should always be used for the object type (as opposed to Classification). In natural history, the type of taxidermical preparation can be specified in this data element.

CARE: If the most specific term from the hierarchical ladder of a vocabulary limits the ambiguity of a collection item (e.g. if the indexing institution does not know the meaning in the country of origin and therefore an unambiguous categorisation is not possible), the superordinate term should be selected in this case.
